However, during monsoon season, the water level rises, engulfing most of the island, and rendering it inaccessible. During heavy rains, the water gushing out of the tunnel creates a spectacular sight. It is important to note that swimming or entering the water is strictly forbidden due to the high level of mud and steepness, which has resulted in numerous fatalities.
The island is located near Kanchiyar village, about 9 kilometers away from Kattappana town and 12 kilometers away from Ayyappancoil. To reach Anchuruli Thuruthu Island, start by heading to Kanchiyar town and taking a right onto Forest Station road. Follow this road for 5 kilometers until you reach a point where vehicles can no longer continue. From there, it’s a 2-kilometer trek through the dense forest to reach the island. The nearest airport is Cochin international airport and the closest major railway station is Ernakulam Junction.
