Nadukani Pavilion, located in the Idukki district of Kerala, is a popular hill viewpoint that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Western Ghats and the surrounding valleys. It is situated on the top of a hill, at an altitude of 3000 feet above sea level, between Thodupuzha and Idukki, in the vicinity of Kulamavu.

Nadukani Pavilion: A Bird’s-Eye View of Idukki

The pavilion was built in 1966 by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), as part of the Idukki Hydroelectric Project. The project involved the construction of three dams across the Periyar River, creating one of the largest artificial lakes in Asia. The pavilion was named after Nadukani, a village near the site.

The circular structure of the pavilion has a dome-shaped roof and a viewing gallery. There are benches and a small garden around the pavilion, providing a perfect setting for visitors to enjoy the view. The pavilion is open to visitors throughout the year, except during the monsoon season.

From the Nadukani Pavilion, visitors can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the Idukki and Ernakulam districts. The surrounding landscape spans the sparkling waters of the Muvattupuzha River, the Moolamattom town, Malankara Reservoir, the imposing sky-high mountains, Vagamon hills, Cochin Refinery, and the verdant vegetation.

Visibility of a part of Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary adds to the beauty of the location, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Visitors can also indulge in forest trekking and birdwatching, making it a complete nature getaway.

Escape to Nature: Visit Nadukani Pavilion

The best time to visit is during the winter season, between October and February when the weather is pleasant and the sky is clear, providing a clear view of the surrounding hills and valleys.

The entry fee for Nadukani Pavilion is INR 25 for adults and INR 15 for children, and is open for visitors from 8 AM to 6 PM. For those would like to buy the tickets in advance, visit the official website of Kerala Hydel Tourism by KSEB.
