Chulliyar Dam is a scenic and vital irrigation project nestled in the verdant landscapes of Palakkad district, Kerala. Located around 36 kilometers from Palakkad town near Kollengode and Meenkara Dam, this dam is built across a tributary of the Gayathripuzha River. Chulliyar Dam: A Blend of Engineering and Natural Splendor

Constructed in 1960 as part of Stage II of the Gayathri Irrigation Project, Chulliyar Dam was partially commissioned in 1966 and completed in 1970. It is a composite structure featuring a 555-meter-long masonry dam flanked by earthen embankments. Designed to support the agricultural demands of the region, it irrigates approximately 2,430 hectares in Kollengode Panchayath, playing a critical role in sustaining crops such as paddy and bananas.

The reservoir formed by the dam is connected to Meenkara via a canal and also receives diverted water from the Palakappandy waterfall, showcasing the extensive water management network in the area. A bridge across the dam provides an ideal vantage point to admire the expansive water body, while the lush greenery around creates a peaceful environment perfect for picnics and casual strolls. However, entry into the small tunnel near the dam is restricted for safety reasons.

Apart from its engineering significance, Chulliyar Dam is also rich in biodiversity.
