Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, Kannur’s lone wildlife sanctuary, is also one of the top places for ecotourists. The Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary is one of Kerala’s best, with 55 square kilometers of woodland in the Western Ghats. The forest is tranquil, and there are numerous hiking opportunities. The sanctuary is located on the northwest slopes of the Western Ghats, adjacent to the forests of Karnataka’s Coorg (Kodagu) district, and falls in the revenue villages of Aralam, Kelakam, and Kottiyoor.
Many rare wildlife species have staked their claim among the tall trees and mesmerizing beauty. When you go on a safari through the dense vegetation and deeper into the forests, you will come across many remarkable and wonderfully extraordinary types of animals and birds that will leave you speechless and in awe of nature’s magnificent creations. Nature camps are held at the Aralam Animals Sanctuary to introduce people, particularly students, to the wildlife and provide an opportunity for them to get away from the city’s deafening noise.
Elephant herds, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, barking deer, Nilgiri Langur, Hanuman Langur, and the Malabar Giant Squirrel may all be seen. It is also known for the large number of butterfly species that can be found there. The Western Ghats are home to the majority of these species.
