Nestled in Kerala’s Idukki district, Ramakkalmedu is a historic site graced by the Kuravan Kurathi Statue, offering panoramic views of Tamil Nadu’s charming villages and towns. This enchanting locale is renowned for its verdant hills and captivating dusk vistas. Moreover, it holds a significant connection to the Hindu epic Ramayana, as its name translates to “Land of Rama’s Stone,” marking the very ground where Rama and Lakshmana are said to have tread while searching for Sita.

Kuravan and Kurathi Statues: Artistry at Ramakkalmedu

The Twin Statue, sculpted by C.B. Jinan in 2005, represents characters connected to the Idukki Dam construction. The Idukki Arch dam links two prominent rock hills named Kuravan Mala and Kurathi Mala. Ramakkalmedu beckons with its rolling green hills and invigorating mountain air, making it an enchanting destination for all. Here, visitors are invited to discover a multitude of ways to immerse themselves in the natural beauty.

The accessibility of this place adds to its allure, ensuring that it’s a destination worth the journey, granting entrancing vistas of the surrounding landscape. As the day transitions into twilight, the sunset views from this spot offer a thrilling spectacle, making it a photographer’s dream. The site treats visitors to a sweeping panoramic view of Tamil Nadu’s charming villages and towns, including Cumbum, Theni, Kombai, and beyond. The impressive Kuravan and Kurathi statues were skillfully sculpted by C.B. Jinan. Ramakkalmedu is renowned for its windy climate and the imposing presence of windmills that adorn the landscape. While admission for adults is a mere Rs. 25, a separate fee grants access to the children’s park.

This destination warmly welcomes nature enthusiasts, avid birdwatchers, and photographers alike. A unique highlight is the presence of a remarkable hollow sculpture showcasing “The Great Horn Bill.” However, the true gem of Ramakkalmedu is undeniably the Ramakalmedu View Point. This extraordinary location offers breathtaking 360-degree panoramas that irresistibly draw visitors and stand as an absolute must-see attraction in the region.
