Kochi Metro is a rapid transit system that serves the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. Kochi Metro Route
Kochi Metro currently has one operational line, which runs from Aluva to Petta, covering a distance of 25.6 km and serving 22 stations. The stations are designed with themes that reflect the culture, history, and geography of Kochi. Some of the notable stations are:
- Aluva: The northern terminus of the line and the nearest station to Cochin International Airport.
- Edappally: The junction station where the proposed line to Kakkanad will branch off.
- Town Hall: The station with a mural depicting the life of Saint Teresa of Kolkata, who visited Kochi in 1981.
- MG Road: The station with a vertical garden that covers an area of 600 sq m and hosts more than 10,000 plants.
- Maharaja’s College: The station with a solar panel roof generates 35 kW of power per day.
- Ernakulam South: The station with a women-only parking lot and a breastfeeding pod for mothers.
- Elamkulam: The station with a rainwater harvesting system that collects 1 lakh liters of water per year.
- Petta: The southern terminus of the line and the nearest station to Hill Palace Museum.
Kochi Metro Timing
Kochi Metro operates from 5:45 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and from 5:45 AM to 11:00 PM on weekends and public holidays. The frequency of trains varies from 5 minutes to 10 minutes depending on the time of day and the demand. The metro system has a total of 25 trains, each with a capacity of 600 passengers. Kochi Metro Fares & Discounts
Kochi Metro uses a smart card system for fare collection, which can be recharged online or at any station. The fare is calculated based on the distance traveled and ranges from Rs 10 to Rs 60. There are also concessional fares for students, senior citizens, and differently-abled persons.
Also, a 50% discount on fares during the non-peak hours, 5:45 AM to 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. In addition, travelers can obtain group discounts of 25% for those above 50 passengers and 50% discount for those above 100 passengers. Kochi Metro also offers monthly passes, tourist passes, and group passes for frequent and bulk travelers.
Kochi Metro Parking Tariff
Cochin Metro stations have parking facilities for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, buses, and tempos. Parking is available for both commuters and non-commuters but the parking charges are lesser for commuters than the non-commuters. There are monthly passes available for non-commuters with a cost of INR 1500 for two-wheelers and INR 4000 for four-wheelers. How to Get Kochi Metro tickets?
To get metro tickets in Kochi, there are multiple options available. One can purchase a single entry ticket directly from the metro station for each travel, and the minimum fare for Kochi Metro is fixed at Rs. 10 for the first two km, and the maximum fare would be Rs. 60 up to 25 Km.
Alternatively, passengers can also book tickets digitally using the Kochi1 app, which can be downloaded and installed on mobile phones. The Kochi1 app allows Metro users to book Metro tickets, view the Metro timetable and get fare details.
Passengers can also use the KMRL Axis Bank Kochi1 Card, a contactless-enabled card that can be obtained from the nearest Kochi Metro station with the passenger’s name on it. Kochi1 card customers can enjoy a discount of 20 percent on every ride, and monthly and bimonthly trip passes are also available. Moreover, Kochi1 card customers will get an offer of a 33 percent discount for a 60-day pass, while the offer is 25 percent for a 30-day pass. The card can be recharged through SMS, net banking, or other channels provided by Axis Bank.
It is worth noting that Kochi Metro aims to integrate the entire public transport system, including the metro, buses, boats, auto-rickshaws, and taxis, as a seamlessly integrated system with a common timetable, common ticketing, and centralized command and control.
What is Kochi Water Metro?
Kochi Water Metro is a water transport system in Kochi, Kerala, that is part of the city’s integrated public transport system, which also includes the Kochi Metro Rail and buses. Its aim is to provide affordable, eco-friendly, and efficient water transport services to people and improve connectivity to different parts of the city.
To achieve this goal, the project involves the use of modern, air-conditioned boats, and the construction of 38 jetties covering a distance of 78 kilometers along the backwaters of Kochi. These boats can accommodate up to 100 passengers and will be equipped with features like GPS, Wi-Fi, and CCTV cameras for the safety and convenience of passengers. The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion on roads, save travel time, and provide a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience for people traveling in Kochi.
