The project was conceived in 2018 and completed in two phases at a cost of Rs 1.97 crore. The museum has been designed in the shape of an aircraft and has two floors with all modern facilities.
The main attraction of the Akkulam Airforce Museum is a flight simulator that gives visitors a realistic experience of flying an aircraft. The simulator is installed on the ground floor along with restroom facilities. Visitors can also see a flight cockpit model and a flight engine on display.
The first floor has a motivation room that showcases photographs depicting the glorious history of IAF and its role in national security. Visitors can also see various models and machinery used by IAF such as radars, missiles, guns, and uniforms. The museum aims to create awareness among visitors about IAF and inspire them to join its ranks.
