Ambanad Hills and Estate

Ambanad Hills is a popular hill station and tourist destination located in the Punalur Taluk of the Kollam district of Kerala. It is known for its stunning panoramic views of majestic hills and green-carpeted meadows. Ambanad Hills are covered with lush greenery and manicured tea gardens, and coffee, cloves, and orange plantations making it one of the few tea and orange plantation areas in the Kollam district. Travancore Rubber and Tea Company manages the Ambanad plantation and estate, which is located in the Clove belt of India (Kollam – Nagercoil) and is among the biggest Clove estates in the nation.

It is popularly known as Mini Munnar as it’s one of the most picturesque locations in the entire South Kerala region, and tourists are sure to be mesmerized by its beauty. The area is also rich with a wide variety of flowers and trees. It is the only tea estate in the Kollam district and is also one of the largest Clove plantations in Kerala. The estate also has tangerine plantations.

Tourists visiting Ambanad Hills can enjoy a wide variety of places of interest, ranging from tea plantations to beautiful hills and water bodies to camping spots. Visitors get the chance to watch and learn about the tea processing at Ambanad Estate which is a British-era factory that still uses ancient machinery. Visitors also can choose to stay at the estate bungalow for rent INR 2500 plus INR 250 for food.

Ambanad Hills is open on all days of the week, and the best time to visit is from October to March. The entrance fee is INR 100 for adults and INR 20 for children. One can reach Ambanad Hills and Estate easily by road. Ambanad Hills is located about 7 kilometers away from Kazhuthurutty and is in the Aryankavu panchayath. The nearest railway station is Thenmala (11.5 kilometers) and the closest airport is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (97 kilometers).
