Ananthapura Lake Temple, also known as Ananthapadmanabhaswamy Temple, is a Hindu temple erected in the midst of a lake in the small village of Ananthapura, some 6 km from the town of Kumbla in Kerala’s Kasaragod district. This is Kerala’s only lake temple and is thought to be Ananthapadmanabha Swami’s (Padmanabhaswamy temple) original seat (Moolasthanam). According to legend, this is where Ananthapadmanabha first settled down.
The Sanctum Sanctorum is built on a lake that is around 2 acres in size (302 feet square). A cave on the right corner of the lake is an interesting spot to remember while visiting the temple. According to local belief, the deity Anantha Padmanabha picked the cave to travel all the way to Thiruvananthapuram. Despite being on opposite ends of the region, these places have similar names.
