Attappadi Hills: A Tribal Haven Amidst Kerala’s Untamed Wilderness

Attappadi Hills is one of those delightfully beautiful places you do not miss, and one of the most attractive tourist spots in Kerala. The majority of this magnificent and alluring village in Kerala is protected by the government as a Reserve Forest area. Attappadi has a hilly landscape and is surrounded by mountains, trees, and rivers.

Attappadi is located on the edge of the Silent Valley Reserve forest, 40 kilometers away from Palakkad town, 20 kilometers from Mannarkkad town. The verdant landscape, meandering rivers, and mountain slopes with dense forests attract nature lovers and anthropologists. Tribes such as the Irulas and Mudugars live in the region, which has a complex relationship with humans and nature.

Attapaddi Hills is the place to go if you want to capture exotic animals in your camera roll. The Wanderoo, also known as the lion-tailed macaque, can be seen. Spotted deer, Nilgiri langur, forest cats, various species of mammals and reptiles, and other unusual animals can be seen here.

The Bhavani River traverses this region. A significant landmark is the Malleswaram hill, where the Indigenous people of the area worship a massive Shivalinga. The tribes in this region widely observe the Shivaratri festival. Don’t miss visiting Malleswaram Mudi, Perumal Mudi, Kunthi River, and Nilgiri Biosphere Park at Attapadi.
