Bungalow Kadavu Museum, located at Mathilakam, has a rich history as a former haven for English intellectuals during the British Raj. Now part of the Muziris Heritage Project, it is being transformed into a museum. The renovations on this historic building are complete, and it will soon showcase its storied past and heritage.
Notable Guests and the Museum’s Mission
Notable guests of the bungalow included Judge William Logan, the author of “The Malabar Manual,” and Rhodes Morgan, the District Forest Officer of Malabar. The museum’s aim is twofold: conservation, which involves restoring the architectural character of the building, and development, which focuses on reviving its functional aspects.
The Bungalow Kadavu Museum will feature galleries highlighting the experiences of British visitors, the history of the bungalow itself, Logan’s significant contributions, and Rhodes’ illustrations. Additionally, an outpost of the bungalow, once used for tax collection, will also be preserved, adding another layer to its historical narrative.
