The temple’s round construction, intricate artwork, and carvings add to its historical and divine significance.

Sacred Splendor: Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple’s Timeless Charms

The Ettumanoor Shri Mahadeva Temple, completed in 1542 AD, showcases traditional Kerala-style architecture and serves as an ancient hub for Lord Shiva worshippers. Conveniently located near the bus stand and railway station in Ettumanoor, it draws pilgrims from across the state. The ambiance is enhanced by exquisite alankaram and auspicious offerings contributing to a spiritual experience for devotees.

Visitors appreciate the temple’s cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and ample parking space. Interestingly, virtual queue tickets for the Sabarimala temple can be obtained in front of Ettumanoor temple. The evening closing times provide an opportunity for Prasadam food, leaving a positive impact on the minds of those who visit.

Moreover, the temple’s rich history is evident in its reconstructed gopuram and fortress, along with Dravidian mural paintings, including the famed Pradosha Nritham fresco. Multiple subordinate deities like Bhagavathi, Sastha, Dakshinamoorthy, Ganapathy, and Yakshi are worshipped here. Legend has it that the temple is the place where Adi Sankaracharya wrote ‘Soundarya Lahari.’

Geographically, Ettumanoor is located between Ernakulam and Kottayam districts, making it easily accessible. The temple hosts grand festivals like Thiru Utsavam in the Malayalam month of Kumbham and the Arattu festival in February–March. The Ezharaponnana festival, featuring seven-and-a-half golden elephant statuettes, marks a high point with a ceremonial procession at midnight, including the Thulabharam ritual.
