The Goa State Museum, situated in the Adil Shah Palace on Avenida Dom João de Castro in Panaji, offers visitors a comprehensive look into the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Established in 1977 by the State Archaeology Department, the museum boasts a diverse collection of artifacts, including stone sculptures, wooden carvings, bronzes, paintings, manuscripts, rare coins, and anthropological objects. Notable exhibits feature Hindu and Jain sculptures, Portuguese-era furniture, and historical printing machines, such as the Albion Press No. 3875 from 1860.
The museum is open Monday through Friday, with visiting hours from 9:45 AM to 1:15 PM and 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Admission is free, making it an accessible destination for those interested in exploring Goa’s history and culture.
