The Indo-Portuguese Museum is located in Fort Kochi, in the Ernakulam district of Kerala state. In an endeavor to preserve and highlight the rich cultural history and Portuguese influence, the late Dr. Joseph Kureethra, Bishop of Kochi, spearheaded the establishment of the museum. The Portuguese impacts on Fort Kochi and the surrounding areas, particularly the western parts of Kochi, are now on display in this museum.
The museum is home to a priceless collection of artifacts that illustrate the Portuguese influence on Fort Kochi and the neighborhood. The Altar, Treasure, Procession, Civil Life, and Cathedral are the five primary divisions of the collection. The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation donated many of the sculptures and precious metal items that are on show at the museum.
