Located near Marayoor in the Idukki district of Kerala, Irachil Para Waterfalls also known as Erachilpara Waterfalls is a stunning waterfall that is fed by water flowing from Kanthallur Mannavanchola and drops from a height of over 300 feet. The Irachil River, which originates from the Western Ghats and flows through the dense forests of Idukki, forms the waterfall. The cascading water from a height of about 300 feet creates a spectacular sight and sound, surrounded by the rich biodiversity of the area, offering a glimpse of the flora and fauna of Kerala. The water is crystal clear and refreshing, and you can even take a shower at the waterfall.
Plan Your Visit
The best time to visit Irachil Para Waterfalls is during the monsoon season, from June to September, when the waterfall is at its fullest and most majestic, or during the winter, from October to February. However, the waterfall never dries up entirely, so you can visit any time of year. Spend a few hours relaxing, showering, picnicking, or exploring nearby trails. Overnight camping is also an option, but you must get permission from the forest department and bring your tents and supplies. There is no entry fee for the waterfall but you may need to pay for the parking.
Getting There
The waterfall is around 4 kilometers from Marayoor town, about 11 kilometers from Kanthalloor, and is on the way to Muniyara – Anakottapara Park, which is approximately 2 kilometers away. This place is easily accessible via a cemented road just off the main Kovilkadavu town and offers a beautiful natural setting with calm and safe waters. Even children can enjoy the area as the water flow after the falls is gentle and not rushing beneath. While the road leading to the falls is narrow, the journey is adventurous and scenic. Along the way, you’ll pass through lush green plantations of cardamom, pepper, coffee, and tea, as well as small villages and hamlets. You’ll even cross a few streams and bridges before arriving at the dirt track leading to the waterfall.
