The Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, often referred to as Kaloor Stadium, is a versatile sports venue located in Ernakulam, Kerala. Positioned in Kaloor, Kochi, it’s conveniently accessible via the J. L. N. Stadium Kaloor Bus Stand and the JLN Stadium metro station.
A Premier Venue for Cricket and Football in Kerala
Originally built as a cricket stadium, it has gradually become more popular for football. It’s now the home ground for Kerala Blasters FC and the Kerala State Football Team and has hosted numerous international cricket matches and Indian Super League (ISL) games. Significant events like the ISL and FIFA U-17 World Cup have also taken place here. The stadium, managed by the Greater Cochin Development Authority, boasts executive suites and can accommodate up to 40,000 spectators, though it has seen a record attendance of 100,000.
In 2017, the stadium underwent extensive renovations, including updates to the turf, roofing, and overall infrastructure, ensuring it remains a prime venue for sports and cultural events. Despite these improvements, visitors have mixed reviews about the seating conditions and cleanliness. Some have noted issues such as an unclean water supply, a leaking roof, and a lack of drinking water facilities.
Accessibility to the stadium is a breeze, with ample public transport options and parking space. There are also various restaurants nearby catering to different tastes, adding to the convenience for visitors. The stadium is known for its vibrant and electrifying atmosphere during matches, with fans praising its energy and ambiance.
