Established in 1879 by Baron John Von Rosenberg and his son, Baron George Otto Von Rosenberg, the Lockhart Estate was one of the first plantations in Munnar. They initially planted cinchona and coffee before switching to tea. Today, the estate is owned by Harrisons Malayalam Limited, one of South India’s most prominent tea cultivators, and produces about 20 million kilograms of tea per year, famous for its orthodox black tea made with traditional methods.
