Rising to 2,500 feet above sea level in the tranquil villages of Ajanoor and Kanhangad in Kasaragod district of Kerala, Manjampothikunnu is a hilltop destination that blends nature, legend, and stargazing into one unforgettable experience. A Scenic Escape Now Becoming a Star-Gazer’s Paradise
Manjampothikunnu is more than just scenic beauty—it’s evolving into Kerala’s first eco-sensitive astro-tourism project. With minimal light pollution in the region, the hill offers one of the clearest views of the night sky in the state. A telescope and viewing deck are being installed as part of the development, aimed at turning the area into a center for celestial observation and skywatching.
The project, spread across 8.07 hectares and budgeted at INR 3.57 crore, includes botanical gardens, bird sanctuaries, food courts, a musical fountain, and landscaped walkways. A cantilever viewpoint, children’s play area, and rainwater harvesting system are also in the works. At the summit, visitors will find a Veera Maruti Temple, adding a spiritual layer to the experience. Linked to the legend of Lord Hanuman, the temple becomes especially serene on full moon days.

Manjampothikunnu is located near Kanhangad and is best reached by personal vehicle. Narrow, steep roads lead to the top, and a short walk is needed to access the viewpoints. There is ample parking available for cars, buses, and two-wheelers. The site is ideal for both weekend getaways and quiet weekday visits, with no reservations required. Sunsets and sunrises are especially breathtaking from this vantage point, and the rainy season brings added charm to the lush surroundings. Whether you’re chasing a quiet picnic spot, dramatic skies, or a chance to glimpse the stars, Manjampothikunnu is worth the climb.
