Marottichal Waterfalls

Marottichal Waterfalls is approximately 20 km away from Thrissur town. In this area, there are two famous waterfalls, one called Olakkayam Waterfalls and the other called Ilanjippara Waterfalls. The waterfalls of Ilanjippara are approximately 300-400 meters from the main road. Ilanjippara Waterfall is about 4 kilometers from the waterfalls of Illankippara.

The main waterfall, Ilanjippara Waterfall, is located within the Reserve Forest and access to this waterfall is currently restricted by the Department of Kerala Forest. Any illegal entry can attract 1 to 5 years of incarceration and up to a fine of 5000.

In the midst of a green setting, you can swim and bathe and get a relaxing and comfortable feeling after an exciting trek. After walking about 4 km from the Olakkayam Waterfall, one encounters the Ilanjippara Waterfall, which still shows its virgin beauty with a quiet escape offered by the place.

The area is full of flora and fauna, offering some spectacular views of the thick forest as well. From both of these waterfalls, with the waters dropping from the cluster of rocks into the gorge below, one gets to see the wonder of nature at its highest. In the summer season, an elephant herd descends to the Ilanjippara Waterfall, which is why it is advisable to go there in groups to prevent any dangerous incident.

The waterfall’s location inside the forest gives it a magical view. Here, on the way there, one can take a four-hour trek and enter the top of the hill with multiple streams of water. There is a high waterfall at the top end, about a 2 km walk from the Marottichal bus stop. These waterfalls, a refreshing spot, are a must-visit for any nature lover.
