Mettukuzhi View Point, situated in the Idukki district of Kerala, is a lesser-known attraction that offers awe-inspiring vistas of the Periyar River valley and the Western Ghats. Located approximately 7 kilometers away from Kattappana town, en route to Kumily, this viewpoint is enveloped by verdant hills and forests, standing tall at an elevation of nearly 1000 meters above sea level.
Exploring the Breathtaking Hilltop
The winter season (October to February) is the ideal time to visit Mettukuzhi View Point when the mist and clouds create a mystical ambiance, and you can witness the gorgeous sunrise and sunset while catching glimpses of wildlife.
Mettukuzhi View Point is a haven for nature lovers, photographers, and trekkers, providing ample opportunities to explore nearby hills and trails. Additionally, you can plan short excursions to popular tourist spots like Ramakkalmedu, Parunthumpara Hill View Point, Thekkady, and Vagamon. Savoring the delicious local cuisine from nearby eateries and stalls is also a must-do activity.
How to Get there
One has to trek or ride through the off-road path to reach the hilltop and of course, there is no entry fee. The best way to reach there is to use an off-road four-wheeler vehicle or a motorcycle. Despite the challenging journey to the top, the breathtaking and captivating view makes it all worthwhile.
Those coming from Kattapana have to take a left turn from Ambalkavala and continue until the next intersection, where you should take a right turn. Once you reach Mettukuzhi junction, turn left and proceed a short distance until you come across an off-road route on the left-hand side, surrounded by cardamom plantations. While this path is a bit bumpy, cars with adequate ground clearance should be able to handle it. Remember to stay to the left along the off-road route, as there are roads on the right that should be avoided. After roughly a kilometer, the destination will appear on the left. It’s not immediately visible, so be sure to keep an eye out on the left-hand side.
