Mullanthandu Kurishumala is a picturesque hilltop located in the Idukki district of Kerala. It is known for its stunning views of the surrounding tea plantations and valleys, which can be enjoyed from the top of a cross. The hilltop is also a popular spot for off-road enthusiasts who enjoy driving their vehicles on rough and muddy terrain.

Activities at Mullanthandu Kurishumala Hilltop

To reach Mullanthandu Kurishumala, visitors can start their journey from Munnar, which is approximately 30 kilometers away from the nearest town, Poopara. Travelers can take the NH 85 road that connects Kerala and Tamil Nadu through the Bodimettu pass. The road is winding and narrow, but it offers breathtaking views of lush green hills, waterfalls, tea gardens, and spice plantations.

Upon reaching Poopara, visitors can follow the signboards to Mullanthandu Kurishumala, which is about 3.5 kilometers from the town. As visitors approach the hilltop, they will notice many jeeps and bikes parked on the roadside, as well as some tents and campsites. Other travelers can be seen hiking or cycling to the top. The hilltop at Mullanthandu offers a stunning view of the Munnar Gap road, Chokramudi Peak, and more.

Visitors are advised to park their vehicles at a safe spot and start walking towards the cross. The path can be slippery and muddy but the challenge is worth it. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the sight of wildflowers, birds, and butterflies. Upon reaching the top, visitors will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the vast expanse of tea plantations, valleys, and mountains in all directions. The cross is made of metal and has a small chapel nearby, which adds to the serenity of the place.

Visitors are advised to return before sunset, as the road can be dangerous at night. There is no entry fee for Mullanthandu and can be visited throughout the day, the best time to visit is from October to February. Mullanthandu Kurishumala is a hidden gem in Idukki that deserves more attention and appreciation. It is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves adventure and nature.
