Poomala Dam is a tourist attraction and irrigation dam located in Mulankunnathukavu Panchayath, Puzhakkal Block, Thrissur, Kerala, India. The Minister of Tourism designated the Poomala dam premises as a tourist attraction in 2010. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) of Thrissur completed beautification work on the dam, which is located in the district of Thrissur. The dam is about 11 kilometers from Thrissur town.
In the Poomala Valley, a division weir was built in 1939, and a Poomala reservoir was completed in 1968. The Kerala Minor Irrigation Department manages the dam, which is made of mud and stone. The dam is located at a height of 94.50 meters above sea level.
Poomala dam offers boat ride and horse ride around the dam, a perfect place for relaxing and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. There is no entry fee to Poomala dam, you pay only if you rent the paddle boat. Poomala dam is a small tourist spot with fewer visitors which makes it a perfect spot for your one-day outing with your friends and family.
