Pullu Padam is located in the Pullu village of the Thrissur district, Kerala, India. The geological landscape surrounding the village is made up of coal wetlands and paddy fields. Pullu Padam is one of the major sources of Kerala’s rice needs and serves as a natural drainage mechanism for the cities of Thrissur and Thrissur District.
The Kole Wetlands are one of Kerala’s largest, most fertile, and most endangered wetlands, and they are part of the migratory bird’s Central Asian Flyway. One of the rivers that run through the Kole Wetlands and provides water for rice cultivation is the Puzhakkal River.
Pullu Padam bird sanctuary is a loving spot for bird watchers. After Chilika Lake in Orissa and Amipur Tank in Gujarat, the Thrissur Kole Wetlands are India’s third-largest in terms of the bird population. BirdLife International has recognized Pullu Padam as one of India’s Important Bird Areas.
