The museum was established in 2006 by Betty Karunakaran, the wife of Revi Karunakaran, based on the private collection accumulated by Karunakaran and his family over several generations. Revi Karunakaran Memorial Museum showcases a variety of artifacts including sculptures, Belgian glassworks, Murano glassworks, Tanjore paintings, and vintage cars.

The museum is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Revi Karunakaran and his contribution to the coir industry of Kerala. The establishment has a distinctive ‘Kerala Room’ showcasing more than 3800 distinct artifacts that document the development and transformation of Kerala’s culture.
