In the lush landscapes of Gavi, in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, the Sabarimala View Point stands as a tranquil haven offering a distant glimpse of the revered Sabarimala temple. To embark on this visual journey, a trek of approximately 3 kilometers is required, leading you through the heart of nature.
A Panoramic Trek Amidst Mountains and Wildlife
As you ascend, the hike unfolds a serene and picturesque panorama, revealing the holy temple against the backdrop of the mountains. However, before you set foot on this adventure, it’s crucial to make prior bookings with the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC), as entry to the viewpoint is restricted.
Nature enthusiasts can revel in the beauty of the trek, but occasional encounters with cows may add a touch of unpredictability. The 10-minute trek culminates at the viewpoint, offering a breathtaking view of Sabarimala nestled amid the mountains. For those with limited time, a shorter trek of 1-2 km takes about 20-30 minutes, providing a fleeting glimpse of the famous Sabarimala Temple.
The experience is enhanced by the cool winds and excellent visibility of the Sabarimala temple complex. As you traverse through the natural habitat, keep a keen eye out for wildlife encounters – elephants, Indian gaur, and if luck favors, even a tiger may grace you with their presence.
While some feel the Sabarimala View Point is a profoundly peaceful place, some may find the cost of the experience a bit steep. Opinions from visitors emphasize the natural beauty, wildlife sightings, and the necessity for reservations to make the most of this enchanting journey.
