Built in 1904, the Sivagiri Mutt is located on the top of the Sivagiri hill in Varkala Town. This is also the headquarters of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham, which was founded by the Guru to spread his vision of “One Caste, One Religion, One God” among his disciples and saints.
The Mutt complex covers 200 acres, and the mutt’s characteristic multi-tiered white terraces will immediately draw your attention once you arrive. The mutt is regarded sacred since it is located on a high plateau. In 1928, it was here that the social reformer and saint Sree Narayana Guru passed away. Thousands of visitors visit the Guru’s Samadhi, or ultimate resting place, which is located on a hillside nearby. There’s also the Guru’s house, which houses his personal belongings.
