Sree Kumaramangalam Subramanyaswamy Temple, situated in the Kumarakom panchayath of Kottayam district, Kerala, is a Hindu temple dedicated to the main deity, Balasubramanian. In the picturesque setting of Kumarakom, nestled along the Vembanad Lake, the temple witnessed a significant event in 1903.
Unique Heritage of Kumaramangalam Temple
Sree Narayana Guru, accompanied by a procession from Alappuzha, performed the consecration of Balasubramanya, leaving an indelible mark on the temple’s history. This unique temple holds the distinction of being the only one in Kerala where Lord Muruga has a golden chariot. Dating back to the Malayalam year 1080, the temple continues to uphold traditions, including an annual boat race on the day of Chathayam in memory of Gurudeva.

Nestled near the Boat Yard on Kumarakom-Vaikom Road in Kottayam, the temple provides a serene spot for Hindu devotees amidst a well-maintained environment. The temple reflects ancient South Indian architectural charm. Its premises extend beyond religious activities, housing a school and a spacious ground for convenient vehicle parking. While the temple is well-renovated and maintained, the entrance from the main road can be challenging due to its narrowness, leading to occasional traffic blocks.
The temple boasts neat and clean surroundings, offering a peaceful devotional experience close to Vembanad Lake, specifically the bank of Meenachilaar. It is conveniently located near SKM HSS, adjacent to a riverbank, enhancing its tranquil and spiritual ambiance.
