Established in 1935 by the Maharaja of Travancore, Sri Chitra Thirunal, the Sri Chitra Art Gallery is located on the northern grounds of the Napier Museum in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The art gallery contains a precious collection of paintings from various regions and a majority of them are gifts to the public by the Royal House of Travancore and Kilimanoor Royal family.

The Mughal, Rajput, Bengal, Rajasthani, and Tanjore schools of art are exhibited in the art gallery. Additionally, it boasts exceptional collections of ancient Indian mural paintings, Tibetan Thangka, and an oriental collection of Chinese, Japanese, and Balinese artworks. Miniatures from over the globe, copies of murals from Ajanta, Bagh, Sigiriya, and Sittannavasal, and manuscripts with historical value are further items of significance. 400-year-old Tanjore miniature paintings are also displayed in the gallery.
The entry fee for the Sri Chitra Art Gallery is INR 20 for adults, INR 5 for children, and INR 40 for families (Father, Mother, and two children). The Gallery is open all days (except Mondays) from 10:00 AM – 5 PM. The Gallery is located at the heart of the city, which makes it easily accessible, just 3 kilometers away from Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station and 6 kilometers away from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.
