The ruined St. Thomas fort , also known as Thangassery Fort, is located in the seaside village of Thangassery on the Arabian Sea’s coastlines in the city of Kollam, Kerala, India. It’s around 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) from Kollam’s city center and 71 kilometers (44 miles) from Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital.
The Portuguese built this historic fort in the Kollam area in 1519 CE. The fort was seized by the Dutch in 1658. The fort was reclaimed by the Dutch in 1661, despite the Portuguese regaining control of some portions. The Dutch handed over the Thangassery fort to the British in 1795.
All that is left of this old fort are its ruins now. To the north of the Thangassery beach, the relics can be found. An arched doorway, as well as the remains of the towers, an ancient fort wall, and other features, may be found here. These remains, according to history buffs, hint of a magnificent past.
