Thanneermukkom Bund

Thanneermukkom Bund is a mud regulator built across the Vembanad Lake and is located in Thanneermukkom, a village in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. It is considered the largest of its kind in the country and it was constructed in 1974 as part of the Kuttanad Development Scheme and is functional since 1976.

The bund separates the lake into two distinct zones with different ecological conditions, which has led to the development of unique biodiversity in each zone. The bund has been proposed as a coastal reservoir in Kuttanad, which would help improve the water balance.
