Thriprayar Shree Ramaswami Temple, located in Triprayar, Thrissur district, Kerala, holds a special place among Hindu temples, earning the moniker Dakshin Ayodhya. Positioned on the Karuvannur River, forming part of the Canoli Canal, the temple’s serene setting contributes to its spiritual ambiance. The Thriprayar Shree Ramaswami Temple stands out as the first among the Nalambalams, honoring the four sons of King Dasharatha: Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana, and Shatrughna. Initially owned by three Nambudiri families, the temple is now under the Cochin Devaswom Board, though these families continue to play a role in its rituals. An annual celebration called “Sethubandhan,” commemorating Rama Setu, takes place on Thiruvonam day in the Malayalam month of Kanni.
Situated about 24 kilometers from Thrissur, the Thriprayar Temple road offers a smooth journey without congestion. Apart from the main deity, the temple premises include Hanuman and Subramanyam temples, adding to the spiritual experience. “Meenoottu” (feeding the fish) at the banks of the Theevra River is a famous offering, enhancing the cultural significance of the temple.
Visiting on weekdays is recommended for a less crowded experience, while the Malayalam month of Karkadakam sees longer queues. The captivating idol, historical importance, and breathtaking architecture make the Thriprayar Temple a must-visit destination.
