Vazhachal Falls is just 5 km away from Athirappilly Waterfalls and 36 kilometers away from Chalakkudy. These waterfalls are popular not only for their scenery but also for the endangered species living in the thick forests around them. Four vulnerable populations of the Hornbill have been discovered by researchers here, the only location they survive in the entire Western Ghats. Ornithologists attach considerable importance to this area and in these sections, bird watchers will come across many unique and colorful birds.
A lovely place to spend time when visiting Aathirappilly is Vazhachal Falls. Due to safety issues, entry to the falls is prohibited. The perimeter is fenced, however, one can see the drop for a decent duration, and this does not obstruct the view. During summer, there will be a limited flow, and seeing this cascading fall during the rainy season and post-rainy season will be incredible. There is a small park for kids and a snack bar. Toilet facilities are also available.
