Exploring the Mysteries of Velliyamkallu Island
To access this intriguing island, one can embark on a one-hour boat ride from Payyoli Beach. The journey unfolds the treacherous rocks and caverns, both shallow and deep, that characterize Velliyamkallu. Some caverns even house deep wells, adding to the natural wonders of the island. Interestingly, the only man-made entity on the entire island is a plaque proclaiming its ownership by the Government of India.
In 1598, Marakkars attacked a Portuguese ship near the island, resulting in the entire crew’s demise.
