The Chulanur Peafowl Sanctuary (Chulanur Peacocks Sanctuary) is located at Chulanur in the Palakkad district of Kerala, about 8 kilometers from Thiruvilwamala, which is the headquarters of the sanctuary. The Chulanur Peafowl Sanctuary is named after K.K. Neelakantan, a well-known Indian ornithologist. This sanctuary was founded on March 14, 1996. It is Kerala’s sole peacock sanctuary. Both the southwest and northeast monsoons hit the area. The yearly precipitation averages 2200 mm. The warm winds that blow through the Palakkad gap cause dry conditions in the area throughout the summer months.
