Nestled in the tranquil village of Chandor, Fernandes House, also known as “Voddlem Ghor” or “Casa Grande,” stands as a testament to Goa’s rich cultural history. This grand mansion was built over 500 years ago and showcases a fascinating blend of Hindu and Portuguese architectural influences. The original structure reflects Hindu traditions, while the Portuguese elements were incorporated in 1821 when the Fernandes family expanded the house.

Today, the mansion is home to Sara Fernandes and her son, Rajeev, who warmly welcome visitors to explore their ancestral heritage. Rajeev personally leads insightful tours, sharing captivating stories about the family’s past and highlighting the stunning antique furnishings that adorn the home. One of the most intriguing features is the secret escape tunnel, historically used during times of conflict. The first-floor salon, once reserved for receiving guests, remains a highlight, offering a glimpse into Goa’s aristocratic past.
