The Hill Palace Museum is a palace and archaeological museum located in the Tripunithura neighborhood of Kochi, Kerala, India. It served as both the Cochin Maharaja’s official house and the imperial administrative center, making it the state’s largest archaeological museum. The palace complex, which spans 54 acres and is made up of 49 traditional-style structures, was constructed in 1865.
Step Into Royal History at Hill Palace Museum
A children’s park, a prehistoric park, a deer park, and a heritage museum are all part of the complex. There are various unique species of medicinal plants on the museum property. The Kerala State Archaeology Department has currently turned the palace into a museum that is open to the public. The palace is accessible by road and train and is located around 10 kilometers from the city center.
The museum features 14 types of artifacts, such as the crown and jewelry from the former Cochin royal family, paintings, marble and stone sculptures, weaponry, inscriptions, coins, and more. The Cochin Royal Family gave the majority of the museum’s attractions, along with a few items from the Paliam Devaswom and the Department of Archaeology. It has a gold crown with precious stone inlay, as well as several priceless coins, jewelry, regal beds, and epigraphic examples. This is where the renowned Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu was filmed.
Except on Mondays and state and national holidays, the Palace is open to the public every day from 10 AM to 12.30 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM. Though the museum closes at 4:30 PM, the children’s park is open until 6 PM. The entry fee for the Hill Palace Museum is INR 30 for adults and INR 10 for children.
