Kottappadi Football Stadium: A Hub for Football Enthusiasts
The stadium holds historical significance, having been a pivotal part of Malappuram’s football scene since the British colonial era. It has hosted numerous tournaments, most notably the Moidu Memorial All-Kerala Football Tournament since 1952. Today, Kottappadi serves as a coaching center for Kerala Blasters FC and the home ground for Malappuram FC and Real Malabar FC.
Facilities at the stadium include dressing rooms, a VIP pavilion, and medical facilities. There are plans to enhance the stadium further with increased seating capacity and floodlights. Despite its decent gallery, the stadium still lacks sufficient amenities for spectators and faces challenges like limited parking on match days. Visitors are advised to use public transport due to the parking constraints.
Situated in the heart of Malappuram town, Kottappadi Football Stadium is renowned for hosting state and national level matches. It was recently renovated, improving its overall condition, although issues like uneven grass quality persist. Nevertheless, it continues to be a vibrant center for football activities in the region, reflecting the enduring passion for the sport in Malappuram.
