Madam Waterfalls is a stunning private waterfall located in Braemore Marigold Estate near Mankayam in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district. Established by the British in the 1800s, the estate is a paradise surrounded by misty hills and green landscapes.

The Hidden Charm of Madam Waterfalls

The waterfall cascades from a trench-like crevice in the rocks, and its crystal-clear water invites you to take a dip. Surrounded by lush greenery and exotic wildlife, it’s an ideal spot for nature lovers and bird watchers. The waterfall’s unique contour may seem baffling at first, but soon becomes fascinating. To explore the waterfall and estate further, you can hire a local guide to learn more about Braemore Estate’s history and culture.

Apart from Madam Waterfalls, there are many other things to do and see in and near Braemore Estate. You can visit Manchiyam Garden, a beautiful garden with medicinal plants; Ayyappa Temple, an ancient temple inside a termitary; Ramayana Guha, a cave with a stream inside; Kalakkayam Waterfalls, part of Mankayam stream that originates in Agasthyakoodam forests; Kurisadi Waterfalls; tea factory; rubber factory; coffee plantation; spice garden; etc. You can also visit Mankayam Ecotourism on the way to the estate and trek to Ponmudi Hills from Braemore Estate if you are feeling adventurous.

The Madam waterfall is stunningly beautiful during the monsoon season (July to September); however, a visit to the fall during the monsoon isn’t recommended to avoid risks. The ideal time to visit the falls is from October to March, when the weather is pleasant and dry. The temperature in this region ranges from 15°C to 25°C during that time. There is no entry fee for visiting Madam Waterfalls, but one should obtain prior permission from the forest department to trek through the estate or camp near the waterfall.

To reach Madam Waterfalls, visitors need to pass through the majestic Manchiyam Garden that lies on the way to the next waterfall in the estate. Visitors can take KSRTC buses from East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram, to reach the Braemore estate. The first bus starts at 6 AM and reaches Braemore Estate by 7:30 AM. The nearest railway station to Braemore Estate is Thiruvananthapuram Central (46 kilometers), and the closest airport is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (49 kilometers).
