Madayipara is a flat-topped hillock in the Kannur district of Kerala, on the northern bank of the Kuppam river, it overlooks Payangadi city. The hillock of Madayipura, which spans 700 acres, is one of Kannur’s most popular tourist destinations. Every season brings new and different hues to the beautiful laterite plateau.
Over 500 plant species, 300 flowering plants, and uncommon butterfly breeds call Madayipara home. Locals will tell you about the seasonal beauty of this laterite hill if you drive down here. Many are used in decorative designs throughout the state during major festivals. The area’s biodiversity has gradually helped it gain popularity among visitors and nature lovers alike.
This location once acted as the administrative center of the Ezhimala rulers. The Pazhi Kotta and other remnants of the past can still be found in the city, serving as a great reminder of the region’s rich history. The coronation of rulers is said to have taken place here, where four watchtowers still guard this former bastion.
Visitors are often drawn to a pond in the form of a hand-held mirror, which is linked to ancient Jewish settlers. The Vadukunda Siva Temple and a nearby lake are also well-known. The lake is said to thrive even in the hottest summer months and provides food for the local fauna.
