Malamel Rock (Malamel Para) or Malamel Tourism is located in the Arakkal village of the Kollam district of Kerala and is a great pick for trekking enthusiasts and nature lovers. Malamel Tourism is developed and managed by Kerala Tourism Department and the District Tourism Promotion Council Kollam. Though one has to take a breathtaking trek through the hilly terrain, the magnificent view and the cold breeze you could experience at the top will make you realize how worth the effort was. Surely, these hillocks have a lot to offer if you would like to spend quality time with your friends and family.
The Hillocks of Malamel Rock
Malamel Rock is not just a single rock as the name implies but a series of hillocks named Ayiravallippara, Nadappara, Kombukuthipara, Nadukanippara, Ambalampara, Pullakkampara, Kudappara, Shangoothppara, Golantharappara, Vimaathappara, and Guhappara. The famous Jatayu Earth’s Center is just 16 kilometers away from the Malamel Rock. The Arakkal Devi Temple and Shree Shankaranarayana temple are also nearby the Malamel Rock.
Starting Your Trek at Malamel Rock
The Arakkal Devi Temple is close to where the trekking begins. Sandalwood and other untamed trees line either side of the steep road. It takes 200 meters to get to Ayiravallippara. You arrive at Ayiravallippara after a 200-meter trek, and the next stop is the Shree Sankaranarayana Temple, which is perched atop a sizable rock known as Ambalappara. The vista, which combines the beauty of the settlement with a landscape covered in a green blanket, is stunning.
Exploring the Scenic Hillocks
The next is the Nadappara covered with lemon grass that flows its fragrance through the cold breeze. As you walk, you can reach the adventurous Nadukanippara from where you can view Maruthimala, Jatayu Rock, and Thangassery Light House. After Nadukanippara, comes the Kudappara and Golantharapara. As the Arakkal village is filled with sandalwood trees and lemon grass, the air at Malamel Rock carries a hypnotic fragrance that one who visited the place will always remember.
