The Maniyar Dam, located on the Kakkattar River in the Indian state of Kerala, holds a special place as a tourist destination. As part of the Pamba Irrigation Project, it plays a crucial role in supplying water to the Alappuzha and Kuttanad areas. The dam’s surroundings offer breathtaking views, characterized by natural beauty that captivates visitors.
One of the highlights near the dam is a century-old swing bridge, which provides a unique and charming walking experience. Additionally, hydroelectric power stations are situated in the vicinity, and visitors can arrange permission to visit them. To cross the enchanting Maniyar River, a rope bridge is available.
The dam is conveniently accessible from Pathanamthitta, Ranni, and Vadaseerikara areas. While there are a limited number of shops and a canteen nearby, visitors should bring their food for convenience. There is no entry fee to visit the Maniyar dam and it’s open on all days of the week.
