Munroe Island

Munroe Island or Mundrothuruth is a group of eight islets located in the Kollam district of Kerala, at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River. The region is named in memory of Resident Colonel John Munro, a former prince of the Travancore Princely State.

The islands have an area of 13.4 square kilometers. Munroe Island is a perfect place for a canal cruise in Kerala and a boat ride to the islets will be an unforgettable memory for all boating enthusiasts. A very close-up perspective and experience of backwater village life in Kerala can be had thanks to the extremely thin canals that connect the entire Munroe Island.

The best time to visit Munroe Island is from November to March. Munroe Island is located 23.5 kilometers away from Kollam and is easily accessible by road, railways, and inland water navigation. The District Tourist Promotion Council operates boat trips twice a day, one at 9 Am and another at 2 PM, with a tariff of INR 600 per person. The nearest railway stations are Munroturuttu which is located 3 kilometers away and Kollam which is located 25 kilometers away from Munroe Island. The closest airport is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport which is located 96 kilometers away.
