If you’re searching for a destination that is both spiritually enriching and visually stunning in Kerala, then a visit to Murugan Hill in Vagamon should be on your list. This hill is located on the eastern side of Kurisumala Hill, another significant pilgrimage site in Vagamon. At the top of the hill, you’ll find a small temple dedicated to Lord Murugan, which is a testament to the craftsmanship and devotion of the people who built it.

The temple and the peacock statue are a marvel to behold, drawing devotees from all corners of the country to pay homage to Lord Murugan. Yet, the hill holds appeal beyond just religious pilgrims, offering a serene setting to appreciate nature’s splendor. Visitors can partake in a nature walk or hike up the hill, discovering the diverse flora and fauna of the region. The breathtaking panoramic vistas of the surrounding valleys and hills from the summit make it an ideal destination for nature appreciators.

Plan Your Visit to Vagamon Murugan Hill

The best time to visit Murugan Hill in Vagamon is between October and April when the weather is comfortable for sightseeing. You can also experience the annual Thaipooyam Mahotsavam, which takes place in January or February and honors Lord Murugan. During this festival, thousands of devotees come to the temple to offer their prayers and perform various rituals.

Things to Do at Vagamon Murugan Mala

Apart from Murugan Mala, Vagamon itself is a popular tourist spot all year round, renowned for its delightful climate and enchanting allure. The town boasts two other hills – Thangalpara, esteemed by Muslims, and Kurisumala Hill, revered by Christians. These three hills are a testament to the religious concordance prevalent in Kerala. There are many other places to visit in Vagamon and to make your visit worthwhile.

While in Vagamon, visitors can revel in the captivating vistas of the hills, explore nature trails, and engage in exhilarating activities such as trekking and paragliding. The town is encompassed by luxuriant tea estates, dense pine woodlands, and quaint waterfalls, augmenting its inherent natural allure.

How to Reach Murugan Hill

The Vagamon Murugan Para can be effortlessly accessed by road from Kottayam, situated approximately 65 kilometers away. Visitors can also travel to Vagamon by bus or taxi from nearby towns such as Kumily, Thekkady, Erattupetta, and Pala. The closest railway station, Pala, is positioned at a distance of 38 kilometers, whereas the nearest airport, Cochin International Airport, is located 98 kilometers away.

A short trek is required to reach the top of Murugan Hill. The trek is relatively short, taking under 30 minutes, but may pose a challenge for older individuals. It’s recommended to wear sturdy shoes with good grip as the terrain can be slippery, especially during the rainy season. Free parking facilities are available, and visitors can also avail themselves of nearby shops that serve fast food options.

Murugan Hill is a destination that should be on every traveler’s list. Whether you’re seeking spiritual enlightenment, natural beauty, or adventure, this hill and the surrounding areas offer something for everyone. So come and experience the divine presence of Lord Murugan and the enchanting beauty of Kerala for yourself!
