Tucked away in the serene village of Netravali in South Goa, the Netravali Bubbling Lake, or Budbudyachi Tali, is renowned for its mysterious bubbling effect. These bubbles, which rise from the lakebed, form mesmerizing patterns on the water’s surface and strangely intensify when visitors clap or make sounds, adding an element of intrigue to this natural wonder.
The Science and Legends Behind the Bubbles
While science attributes the bubbling phenomenon to natural gases like methane or carbon dioxide escaping from the earth, locals believe it is a divine blessing from the nearby Gopinath Temple. This ancient temple, dating back to the 9th century, is dedicated to Lord Krishna and adds a spiritual charm to the site.
How to Reach and Best Time to Visit
Situated in Sanguem Taluka, around 79 kilometers from Panaji and 44 kilometers from Margao, the lake is accessible via a scenic drive through Goa’s lush countryside. Open from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM, the ideal time to visit is between October and March when the weather is pleasant, or during the monsoon to enjoy the surrounding greenery.
The tranquil environment, combined with the lake’s unique bubbling effect, makes it a perfect spot for relaxation and photography. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions like the Netulem and Mainapi waterfalls and the ancient temples of Mahalaxmi and Siddeshwar in the surrounding areas.
