The Palkulamedu mountain trek begins at Churali, a little village 8 kilometers from Cheruthony on the Adimali route. When you get to Churali, take the tarred road that leads to the hill. Alparai is the lone town along the way, a little town with a few tea shops and a lot of helpful people. After 6 kilometers from Churai, you will come to another intersection, where you must turn left into a road with a severe incline (The other road goes down the hill). After 3 kilometers, this road will dissolve into a jeep road, traveling through cashew nut orchards with a few modest cottages on either side. Continue on this muddy road, passing through a few hairpin curves and high-tension power wires. After another hour of hiking, you’ll reach a huge plateau with the final mountain draped in green grass just in front of you. It takes another hour to climb to the top of this peak and reach Idukki’s roof.
