Tucked away in the tranquil village of Savoi Verem in Goa’s Ponda taluka, Savoi Plantation offers a refreshing escape into nature. Established over two centuries ago, this 100-acre organic farm provides an authentic glimpse into Goa’s agricultural traditions. A visit here promises not only scenic beauty but also a deep dive into sustainable farming, spice cultivation, and Goan culinary heritage.
Savoi Plantation: A Rustic Retreat into Goa’s Spice Heritage
Guests are welcomed with a traditional kokum drink, crunchy chakreos, and fresh cashew nuts before embarking on a guided plantation tour led by the knowledgeable Baburao Shetye. The plantation is home to a wide range of spices and medicinal plants, including turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, and the distinctive elephant ear plant. Visitors can explore lush greenery, water streams, and eco-friendly farming practices, all while learning about traditional Goan agriculture. The farm proudly adheres to sustainable methods, using biodegradable plates and natural irrigation systems.
A Taste of Authentic Goan Cuisine
After the tour, guests enjoy a buffet-style Saraswat meal prepared by skilled local chefs, Shalan and Seema. The spread includes signature Goan dishes such as Saraswat prawn curry, chicken shagoti, and rawa-fried prawns, all made using fresh farm-grown ingredients. Served in a rustic setting, the meal enhances the farm-to-table experience and reflects the true flavors of Goan heritage. Visitors also get a glimpse of ancestral kitchen tools that were once essential in traditional Goan households.
