The Se Cathedral, located in Old Goa, stands as a testament to the region’s rich colonial history and architectural grandeur. The structure measures 250 feet in length and 181 feet in width, featuring an Iberian façade and an impressive vaulted ceiling. Notable attractions include the renowned Golden Bell, celebrated for its rich tone, and the baptismal font used by St. Francis Xavier. The cathedral also houses several chapels and altars adorned with intricate woodwork and significant artworks, such as the Cross of Miracles, which is associated with various legends of miraculous events.
Timings, Entry, and Best Time to Visit
Visitors can explore the cathedral daily from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm, with extended hours on Sundays from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. Mass is held on weekdays at 7:30 am and 6:00 pm, and on Sundays at 7:15 am, 10:00 am, and 4:00 pm. There is no entrance fee; however, guests are encouraged to dress modestly to respect the sanctity of the site. The period from October to March is considered the best time to visit, offering pleasant weather conditions ideal for sightseeing. Given its historical significance and architectural splendor, the Se Cathedral remains a must-visit landmark for those traveling to Goa.
