Valiazheekal Beach located at Valiazheekal, in the Alappuzha district of Kerala is one of the most beautiful and secluded beaches in the cost of the Arabian sea. The beach is named after the village of Azheekal and the name Azheekal is derived from the Malayalam word “Aazhee,” meaning the meeting point of backwaters and the sea.
Valiazheekal has India’s first pentagon-shaped lighthouse and the second tallest in Kerala. The lighthouse is powered by solar energy and has an LED marine lantern with a luminous range of 20 nautical miles. The entry fee for the lighthouse is INR 20, and if you have a camera, there is an additional charge of 50 rupees. Consider taking the stairs instead of the lift as it is more interesting and provides great photo opportunities through the small windows on the way up.
The Valiyazheekkal Bridge is the longest bowstring arch bridge in South India, and it is located near the lighthouse. The bridge links Arattupuzha grama panchayat in the Alappuzha district to Alappad in the Kollam district. The bridge runs parallel to the sea and Kayamkulam Kayal, offering stunning views of both the sea and the lake.
The beach has car parking available for a fee of INR 30 and there are a few small shops that sell snacks and drinks. The best time to visit Valiazheekal Beach is during the evenings, from October to March. Valiazheekal Beach is located just 1.5 kilometers away from Azheekal Beach and 10 kilometers away from Kayamkulam.
