Vazhvanthol Waterfall: Nature’s Oasis in Agasthyakoodam Trek
Vazhvanthol Waterfall belongs to the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the valley of Bonacaud, and is a part of the trekking route of Agasthyakoodam Peak. The trek to the waterfall is about 5 kilometers long and takes visitors through the dense Kannithadam forest. The trek is not too difficult but it takes about 2-3 hours to complete. At the top of the trek, visitors can witness two waterfalls – the first waterfall can be found after a 2-kilometer trek through the forest, and the second and main waterfall, Vazhvanthol Falls, can be seen after trekking half a kilometer further.

The trekking starts at 9 AM and ends at 1 PM and the package offered by the forest department costs INR 1000 for a group of 10 trekkers. Please remember to get permission from the forest department office at Kannithadam and confirm the availability and cost of the packages beforehand as they are subject to change based on weather and other conditions. Visitors can also take a refreshing dip in the lower pool of the waterfall on their way back of the trek, but it’s recommended to avoid the slippery higher pools. Overall, Vazhvanthol Waterfall is a good one-day weekend getaway for people interested in trekking.
