Oorakam Hill or Oorakam Mala is a mountain in the Malappuram district of Kerala. It is located in Oorakam village, between the villages of Nediyiruppu and Kannamangalam. The pinnacle of the mount can be seen from the Malappuram – Parappanangadi state highway between Vengara and Panakkad, which is about 6 km from the highway.
A 2000-year-old Jain temple can be found at the summit of the mountain which is believed to be the ancient temple in Kerala, after the Sabarimala temple. According to the Malayalam calendar, the yearly temple festival is conducted on the day of the Thiruvonam star in the Thulam month. Every year during the celebration, believers flock to the temple. As a result, Oorakam Hill became known as Thiruvonamala. Further hiking will take you to a spot from where the Cacliut international airport is visible. Though it’s far, one can see the flights landing.
